Hans Baldung Grien completed this work in 1517. Here Death seizes a young girl by the hair preparing to force her to descend into the tomb dug at her feet. Death points toward the grave with his right hand. The girl, completely naked, does not resist. Her mouth is plaintive, her eyes are red and tears run down her cheeks; she understands the inevitability of her end.
