2005 Homophobic World Personality

In 2005, the winner isn’t a personality but a country,

... and the GOLDEN COCK 2005 goes to: POLAND

Nothing justifies a country in the European Community act like Poland.
Poland is probably the only country in the world that claims to be democratic while at the same time it is perfectly safe to proclaim in public “Hitler has done the right thing” or “gays to gas-chambers”. Furthermore this kind of aggression is fully accepted by the Government and ruling politicians. Yet in the same country it is forbidden to take part in a peaceful march against discrimination. It is one of few places where aggressive neo-nazis throw stones at a group of gay people and yet the Police brutally arrest the gays, not the neo-nazis.

See the post: The Battle of Poznan

2005 Homophobic Portuguese Personality

... and the GOLDEN COCK 2005 goes to: Maria Manuel Pinto Barbosa

Maria Manuel (Pinto=Young Chicken) Barbosa, synonymous of mediocrity; dissimulation; arrogance; ignorance; cowardice and over all incompetence.

How is possible a nullity like her to be and to continue to be the front of important positions in these last years?
Understandable, after all this is the portrait of the country (Portugal) that we have.

BABALU - DECEMBER 2005

REFERENCE: Ballet – SWAN LAKE

This version of SWAN LAKE by Tchaïkovski was a great success, when of its creation in London in 1995. This same version was presented on the 1° Festival of Cinema Gay and Lésbico de Lisboa successfully.
Now and since last November SWAN LAKE by Mathew Bourne is in Paris at the Mogador Theatre at the 9eme.
Brilliant, sensual and beautiful are what if it can say of this version where men interpret the main roles.

Strauss is definitely one of the best composers since ever. Salome is a masterpiece and other of my favourite Operas.
An especial edition is the one performed by Birgit Nilsson.

Another great opera: beautiful, intense, especially the Cherubim’s Chorus

REFERENCE: MUSIC – Opera – Duets

Two of my favourites duets are from Gounod’s ROMÉO ET JULIETTE and Delibes’s LAKMÉ

About LAKMÉ could be interesting tell you that the duet between Lakmé and Malika become very famous after British Airways advertisement as well as performed on the film THE HUNGER by Tony Scott (1983) with David Bowie and Catherine Deneuve.

MALBORO MEN

INTEREST: RUBBER SUIT

CELSO JUNIOR: PICTURES

Amazing coincidence,
I’ve just seen a calendar from Italy where the subject is the Gondoliers from Venice. I must confess that the idea is really nice.

They are quite fascinating men.
I took this picture on my last trip to Venice last summer 2005.

Orange Limes and Cashews

My favourite fruits, from Brazil of course!

INTEREST: TREES

About one year ago, during my trip to Brazil I started to plaint trees at my gardens, a huge back garden and a reasonable one in front of the house.

As the trees are quite big I decided to plaint only six: One of each specimen of Brazilian IPÊ (Yellow, White, Pink and Violet), one Chilean IPÊ (Light Pink) and a Orange Lime Tree (it isn’t a king of lemon but a very sweet orange).

Here you can see a picture of the front garden where I've planted the Yellow Ipê.
It is still a baby and will blossom in about 8 to 10 years from now.

INTEREST: TREES - LARANJA LIMA (Brazil)

ORANGE LIME
“O Meu Pé de Laranja Lima” is also a famous Brazilian novel by Jose Mauro de Vasconcelos.

That is the one I've planted myself.

INTEREST: TREES - IPÊ BRANCO (Brazil)

White Ipê, I took this picture by a friend's place in Brazil.
Crazy about the nest...

INTEREST: TREES - IPÊ ROSA CHÁ (Chile)

From Chile, flower is doubled and the pink colour is light. I have one at my house in Brazil, at the back garden.

INTEREST: TREES - IPÊ AMARELO (Brazil)

INTEREST: TREES - JACARANDÁ (Brazil)

In Lisbon I live at Praça da Armada and just in front my windows I have dozens of Jacarandás, blossoms at once a year during May and June.
In Brazil where they are from they blossoms on September and October.

REFERENCE: MUSIC - Opera – SAMSON ET DALILA by Camille Saint-Saëns

Definitely, “Mon cœur s'ouvre à ta voix « is my favourite Aria!
So many souvenirs, so beautiful, so perfect!

DALILA

...

REFERENCE: MUSIC - Opera – VERDI

Verdi isn’t one of my favourite composers but there are three Opera that deserve be commented:

ATTILA

ERNANI
Saw it on stage on 1986, beautiful!!!

LA FORZA DEL DESTINO

REFERENCE: MUSIC - Opera – Jules Massenet

I really believe that is possible to make a comparison between Massenet and Puccini.
I do prefer Massenet, he is my favourite opera composer for sure and I have the feeling that Puccini wanted to translate with desperate passion on Italian terms what Massenet felt in a French way.

I really like almost all of his operas but at least three of them are particularly beautiful. Massenet's method of working was to memorize the text of a scene, plant it like a seed in his imagination. Each scene of Thais or Hérodiade for example has their distinctive motif or motifs, evocative both of atmosphere and of emotions.
The general aura of the three operas below is slightly oriental, but specially on Thais, Massenet used his special skills at orchestration, using sometimes very simple means, like a single flute, to evoke a feeling that is not only uniquely his own but also uniquely "Thais".

3 Favourites:

Hérodiade
Opera in four acts
Composer: Jules Massenet
Librettists: Paul Milliet, `Henri Grémont' (Georges Hartmann), and Angelo Zanardini
Source: Hérodias, novella by Gustave Flaubert
First performance: Théâtre de la Monnaie, Brussels, December 19th 1881

Le Roi de Lahore
Opera in five acts
Composer: Jules Massenet
Librettist: Louis Gallet
Source: The Mahabharata
First performance: L'Opéra, Paris, 27 April 1877

Thaïs
Opera in three acts
Composer: Jules Massenet
Librettist: Louis Gallet
