Imagery IX – BD.1 - SARG ROCK.1 - Uhlanos

A bit of History:
Uhlans or Lancers were Calvary troops, which as the name implies, carried lances. The lances were still being used (at least in drills) as late as the 1920's in Germany and even later in other Eastern European countries. The first Lancer regiment in Prussia was founded in 1740. At the outbreak of WWI, there were 21 German Lancer regiments (not including Bavarian Lancers) of which three were Guard Regiments.

Uhlans wore distinctive uniforms compromised of the "ulanka", a tunic with a V shaped double row of buttons, with a "plastron" that would be buttoned on the front for formal occasions, and the mortarboard helmet, the "Chapka".
