The aroma of leather and man sweat must have been very strong as booted men moved to piles of bodies and began to roughly and urgently pull the boots and uniforms off, tugging on gauntlet gloves, unbuckling belts, peeling down breeches and unbuttoning tunics, revealing stinking feet and armpits and crotches.”
